Fourth-ranked Spirit Lake Park continued their hot start to the wrestling season, taking a pair of duals within the Lakes Conference at a triangular in Hull. The Indians began the night with a 59-18 win over Estherville-Lincoln Central. Ben Parks (106). Doug Miner (113), Sam Bosma (126), Kenten Murray (132), Isaac Lundgren (138), David Trucksess (152), and Casey Jones (195) all won via pin fall against the Midgets, while Zach Skopec (120) won by technical fall in his match.. Dylan Bryce (145) and Rick Maris (160) won their respective matches by scores of 5-2 and 10-5. ELC’s lone win in a non-forfeit was by Gable Bonner, who pinned Nathan Kyle at 285 pounds. Spirit Lake Park then notched a resounding 63-18 defeat over Western Christian. The Midgets took their dual with the Wolfpack by a 60-22 margin. SLP will next wrestle against Jackson County Central this Saturday in Jackson, while Estherville-Lincoln Central will grapple at the Emmetsburg Invitational.
In other Lakes Conference wrestling, defending champion Spencer earned wins over LeMars and Storm Lake in a double-dual on the Tornadoes home mats. The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs, 66-12, winning twelve of the 14 matches, six by pin. Next, Spencer earned a 57-15 victory over Storm Lake, taking eleven matches. The Tornadoes did win the head-to-head with LeMars, 51-24.
Okoboji picked up its first dual wins of the season competing in a triangular at Sioux Center on Thursday. The Pioneers defeated the Warriors, 44-30, for a Siouxland Conference win that saw the visitors rack up eight wins by pin fall. Adam Dublinski (120), Brody Linn (132), Taylor Cody (138), Zach Jones (160), Justin Richardson (170), Tanner Taylor (182), Austin Kolegraff (195), and Jacob Sauter (220) earned those wins. Okoboji then notched a non-conference victory by taking down Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, 47-33. Zach Jones (160), Justin Richardson (170), and Jacob Sauter (285) all win by fall for Okoboji, which also gained an 11-2 match win from 113-pounder Ryan Bolster. The Hawks gained match win by pin fall from Joseph Rivera (120), Nick Drenth (132), Dakota Drenth (138), and Brett Flynn (152). Dakota Goodvin (126) defeated Cameron Arnold, 11-9. Okoboji will wrestle again Saturday at the Emmetsburg Invitational. The Hawks also came up short against Sioux Center, falling by a 42-39 margin. HMS won seven matches, six by pin fall and one by forfeit.
In a non-conference quadrangular, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire suffered three dual setbacks. In Graettinger, GT/RA dropped a 45-12 match to Prairie Valley, lost 66-9 against Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer, and then ended with a 78-6 falter to South Central Calhoun. The lone bright spot was Tyler Dalen. The #2 wrestler in the state at 113 pounds, notched three wins, surpassing the 100 career wins milestone in the process.
