For the second year in a row, the Class 2A Substate title
came down to rivals Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji and Spencer, and, for the second
year in a row, SLP-O will be making the trip to Des Moines to compete in the state
tournament. Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji earned a 2-1 victory over the Tigers in
Spencer on Saturday. Star forwards Zubeen Azari and Kade Heikens each netted a
goal. Heikens and Brett Cochran-Bray contributed with assists, while goaltender
Keith Oskvig collected 18 saves. Spencer ends their season at 15-3-1. Spirit
Lake Park-Okoboji, at 13-2-2, will open the state tournament at the Cownie Soccer Complex on Thursday at
2:30pm. As the seventh-seed, SLP-O draws second-seeded Pella, who enters with a 17-2-1 record.
