SLP-O Falls to Norwalk in Semifinals, Again

In a rematch of last year’s Class 2A Boys State Soccer Semifinals, Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji fell to perennial power Norwalk by a 2-0 final in Des Moines. The Warriors, who are making their eighth trip to state, netted a first half goal in the 20th minute on a deflection by Adam Jones. SLP-O went scoreless on 14 shots in trying to pull even before reserve Tyler Hixson came off the bench to net the insurance goal with eight minutes to play. Spencer Hoyt collected seven saves for Norwalk, which will take a 15-5 mark into the title game against Dubuque Wahlert. The Golden Eagles shutout ADM, Adel, 3-0, in the other semifinal. Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji, which had to play for ten minutes without forward Zubeen Azari and stopper Alex Dau due to yellow cards in the second half, drops to 14-3-2 and into the consolation game against the Tigers on Saturday. That match will begin at 1:30pm, with coverage again on Q102 and ExploreOkoboji.com.
