The boys track and field team from Spirit Lake Park hit the road Thursday to run in Cherokee. The night’s biggest winner was the Medley Relay team of Luke Kabele, Aric Waltz, Kayne Feldick, and Alec Baldwin, which simultaneously broke the school and meet records, as well as qualified for the Drake Relays in Des Moines with a time of 3:34.51. Other first place finishers included Baldwin in the 400m (50.92), Keith Byers in the 800m (2:01.11), Will Norris in the 3200m (9:58.88), Kevin Martinson in the 400m hurdles (58.12), and the 4×400 relay team of Martinson, Kabele, Waltz, and Feldick (3:30.67). Second place finishes went to Paul Woizeschke in the 800m (2:08.28) and the 4x200m relay team (1:34.18). Taking third on the medal stand for SLP was Dalton Kelley in the discuss throw (145’8”) and the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay (1:04.72). Spirit Lake Park was tops in the team competition with 121 points, besting Bishop Heelan by eleven. Spencer finished eighth with 50 points.
