The Spirit Lake Park boys track and field team received an early test on Tuesday, competing at the ISU Classic on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames. SLP was among some 100 teams competing in the event, and returned with a healthy collection of hardware. Leading the way was the Medley Relay team of Luke Kabele, Bryson McCabe, Kevin Martinson, and Keith Byers. That group placed second out of 89 teams and set an indoor school record with a time of 3:39.9.
The 4×400 relay team also made the medal stand, taking seventh-place honors. Martinson, Aric Waltz, Kabele, and Kayne Feldick combined for a time of 3:32.89, also setting a new indoor school record.
Individually, Keith Byers ran to a fifth-place time of 9:46.19 in the 3200, while Kabele earned a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 20′ 7.5″.
