The Spirit Lake-Okoboji tennis teams had another highly
successful weekend of postseason play.
The girls swept their way into the first round of state, by
claiming their second consecutive Class 1A regional title Saturday in Spencer.
SL-O defeated Sioux City Bishop Heelan, 5-0, to advance. The matched ended
after Spirit Lake-Okoboji notched its fifth singles victory. Those wins came
from Hannah Coenen, Rachael Westergard, Margaret Delaney, Olivia Rohlk, and
Amanda Bueltel. At 13-0, Spirit Lake-Okoboji will take the courts again Monday
against perennial-power Red Oak. That match begins at 3pm in Storm Lake.

The boys competed at the Class 1A Substate in Ft. Dodge,
and fell one match shy of reaching the state semifinals. Spirit Lake-Okoboji
breezed right through Aplington-Parkersburg, 5-0. Brandon Stoll, Wes Bergquist,
Connor Rowley, Trystan Wiedow, and Andrew Ites all picked up the wins in
singles competition. The victory pushed SL-O into the substate final against
St. Edmonds. Spirit Lake-Okoboji was unable to pick up any victories, losing
5-0. They end their season with an 11-1 dual record.
