SL-O Tandem Into Final Four in Girls Tennis

In their first venture as a duo to the Class 1A Girls State Tennis Championships, the Spirit Lake-Okoboji doubles team of KJ Veldman and Rachael Westergard won twice on Thursday to advance into the state semifinals. The combo opened tourney play with first round win over Marissa Buresh and Morgan Kuhrt from Waverly-Shell Rock by a 6-4, 6-3 score. In the quarterfinals, Veldman/Westergard earned a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Kacci ClarkWilt and Michaela Pearson of Norwalk. On Friday, the duo will take on Anne Nora and Abby Greenwood from Waterloo Columbus in the state semifinals.

In the Class 1A singles bracket, Hannah Coenen began play against the number four overall seed, Amanda Stefanik of Oskaloosa. That match ended in a 6-0, 6-4 loss for Coenen. In the consolation first round, Coenen lost again, this time to Ellen Chalstrom from Fort Dodge St. Edmond by a 6-0, 6-0 final
