It was a perfect day of tennis for the Spirit Lake-Okoboji
girls’ team on Saturday, sweeping through two Class 1A Regional duals in
Spencer. SL-O opened with a 5-0 blanking of Storm Lake.
The win pushed Spirit Lake-Okoboji to the second-round and into a matchup with
rival Spencer. The Tigers were coming off a five-match win (5-0) over
Estherville-Lincoln Central. This year’s undefeated Lakes Conference champions
had little trouble with Spencer, as SL-O dispensed the Tigers by winning the
first five matches in a row. Spirit Lake-Okoboji advances to the regional final
on May 19 in Spencer, where they will take on Sioux City Bishop Heelan. That
match will begin at 9am, with the winner playing two days later in the first
round of the state tournament. Spirit Lake-Okoboji now boasts a 12-0 record in dual competition this season.
