A state championship was the goal Friday of Spirit Lake-Okoboji doubles tandem, KJ Veldman and Rachael Westergard, as they began day two of the Class 1A Doubles Tournament in the state semifinals. The duo opened with a loss to the eventual state champions from Waterloo Columbus, Anne Nora and Abby Greenwood, by a score of 7-5, 6-3. In the third place match, Veldman/Westergard dropped another 7-5, 6-3 contest to Kimberly Graf and Mackenzie Johnson of Shenandoah to finish in fourth place overall.
