Yet another milestone victory over the weekend for Spirit Lake softball coach Chuck Skogerboe. The Indians 4-3 defeat of Sioux City West was Skogerboe’s 400th career victory, and it came in dramatic fashion. Using the international tiebreaker rules, Alli Gerking drove in Brianna Brunsvold for the game-winning RBI in the eighth for the win. Spirit Lake followed that up with a 13-1 setback in three innings against Akron-Westfield to finish 3-1 at the Spencer Tournament. Gerking and Cara Vale were named to the All-Tournament team.
At the Okoboji Softball Tournament, the host Pioneers capped a perfect weekend with a 1-0 victory over South O’Brien and a 2-1 decision against Spalding Catholic. Harris-Lake Park was able to notch one win in their four games, taking down Sioux Central 14-4 on Saturday. They would drop their last contest by a 10-7 final to Sibley-Ocheyedan. Graettinger-Terril lost 7-6 to MOC-Floyd Valley and 13-3 to Sioux Central. And Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn split their two Saturday games. The Hawks fell 4-3 to Sheldon, but rebounded for a 10-4 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan.
