Spirit Lake sophomore Taylor Sieperda was in Minneapolis, over the
weekend, competing in a USA Grand Prix Series event. It was one of six events held throughout the
year.
Sieperda swam in the finals in both the 50 freestyle, where
she finished 14th overall; and the 100 backstroke, where she took 9th
overall. She swam in the same heat as
U.S. Olympic Gold medal winner Missy Franklin, during the prelims, for both of
those events.
She also swam in the prelims, in the 100 Freestyle, where
she ended up seeded 15th, but scratched her right to swim in the
finals for that event. She registered
personal best times in both the 100 backstroke (57.32 seconds) and the 100
freestyle (52.7 seconds)).
Olympian Ryan Lochte also swam in Saturday’s competition,
and Sieperda came away with some great pictures taken with both Franklin and
Lochte.
