Rock Valley Knocks Off HLP Boys

Rock Valley outscored Harris-Lake Park 16-6 in the third
quarter and held on for a 69-52 win in the boys Class 1A District 1 Basketball
Final at Western Christian High School on Thursday night. The Rockets led 15-12
after one quarter. In the second, they got up 23-14, only to have the Wolves
come storming back and tie it up at 25. Rock Valley then scored the final 5
points to make it 30-25 at half. The third quarter run was simply too much for
the Wolves to overcome. Senior Scott Westra led the Rockets with 25 points, 20
of them coming in the second half. He also had 10 rebounds. Rock Valley juniors
Andrew Van Ginkel and Jerod Hansen each had 14 points. They improve to 16-8 and
will face Boyden-Hull in the substate game Saturday night in LeMars. The Comets
easily beat LeMars Gehlen 54-31. The Wolves were led by senior Eli Ihnen’s 20
points. He was 9-for-9 at the free throw line. Senior Colin Brons had 14 points,
12 of which came in the first half. He also had 11 rebounds. The Wolves season
ends at 21-3. They also graduate seniors Tanner Hiveley and Kade Heikens.
