Two big comebacks highlighted the Okoboji Pioneers five-game win, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17, 20-15, 15-10 over Siouxland Conference rival Sibley-Ocheyedan in girls volleyball action Thursday night. After splitting the first two game, the Pioneers fell behind 15-5 to start game three, before winning 20 of the next 22 points to take the game. Okoboji would rally again in the fourth game, only to fall short, setting up the decisive fifth game, which the Pioneers took 15-10. Mikkinzie Peschong tallied 18 kills and seven blocks. Aubry Kolegraff finished with 39 assists and eight aces, while Mary Eckard had 14 digs. Both Okoboji and Sibley-Ocheyedan will participate in the Spirit Lake Invitational this Saturday.
Harris-Lake Park took to the road to get their first win in Cornbelt Conference play, sweeping West Bend-Mallard in three games, 25-19, 25-18, 25-12. Lydia Brandt enjoyed a big night with eleven kills, eight assists and five aces. Macy Gunderson set the offense with 20 assists, while Sam Brueggeman led the defensive effort with a team-high nine digs.
The Graettinger-Terril volleyball team regrouped from a rough outing last week at the Okoboji Invite to earn a three-game sweep, 25-10, 25-23, 25-16, over C-W-L in non-conference play. Nikki Brown notched eleven kills, while teammate Lindsay Flaharty registered eight assists and six digs
Also Thursday night, Ruthven-Ayrshire needed four games to gain a match victory over Aurelia, 25-15, 20-25, 25-22, 25-15.
North of the border, Jackson County Central defeated Marshall in five games, Martin County West swept Madelia, while Fairmont fell in three games to St. James, as did Round Lake-Brewster against Murray County Central.
