Trailing by double-digits in the second half, the Okoboji girls basketball team rallied late to pull out a 42-35 season opening victory over Siouxland Conference rival Sibley-Ocheyedan on Tuesday. Taylor Poppema scored ten of her team-high thirteen points in the second half.
Mikkinzie Peschong also reached double-digits with ten points, six of which game after halftime, to go along with seven rebounds. Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Alyssa Hibbing led all scorers with a game-high 14 points. Okoboji will return to action next week Tuesday for a girls-boys doubleheader against conference-foe Sioux Center. In other action last night, the Spencer Tigers began their girls basketball season with a non-conference loss to Newell-Fonda, falling 48-35.
