Brandi DeMuth scored a career-best 24 points and Taylor Poppema added 18 as the Pioneers put up a season-high in a 72-48 win over West Lyon, snapping a four-game losing streak. Okoboji led by 7 at halftime but outscored the Wildcats 23-11 in the 3rd quarter, 21 of those points coming from Poppema and DeMuth. The Pioneers added 29 field goals on the night, also a season high. Okoboji (4-9 Siouxland) leapfrogged West Lyon in the standings, now leading the ‘Cats by a half game.
BOYS
The Okoboji Pioneers held a lead with 5.9 seconds remaining but West Lyon’s Tanner Grotewald knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer to propel the Wildcats to a 57-56 win on Tuesday night. The contest featured seven ties and nine lead changes, the final giving West Lyon the win. The Pioneers got all but eight of their points from their starting five, all seniors, led by Bill Burgduff’s 21. Okoboji (0-12 Siouxland) knocked down nine triples in the contest.
