Thursday night saw the annual meeting of Okoboji and Spirit Lake Park in the Dickinson County Dual and Okoboji picked up the victory by the slimmest of margins, 37-36 over Spirit Lake Park. Okoboji carried a 24-18 lead into the 189 lbs. match. That’s when Shane Vanderpool defeated Rick Wilson 16-7, getting an extra point for a major decision putting the Pioneers up 28-18. The Schwallers would take it from there when Doug picked up the fall in the 215 lbs. match, and Dustin would get a decision in the heavyweight contest, putting Okoboji up 37-18, securing the victory. The Indians would close out with three straight pinfalls coming from Sam Bosma, CJ Kent, and Doug Miner, three of the five total falls for Spirit Lake Park to three falls for the Pioneers.

The big swing match of the night came in the 152 lbs. when Kris Kaufman squeezed away with a 4-2 win over Rick Maris in a tight contest. Kaufman picked up a reversal and a takedown, each coming in the final 10 seconds of the first two periods.

The Indians now get ready for Friday’s Lakes Conference Tournament at Spencer while the Pioneers head to Rockwell City for their final tune-up on Saturday before the Siouxland Conference Tourney on Tuesday at Sioux Center.
