Okoboji’s second Siouxland Conference win did not come easy Friday night, as the Pioneers girls basketball squad hung on late for a 38-36 road victory over Sheldon. Skylar Hansen set the tone early and finished with a near double-double of 14 points and nine rebounds. Faith Bartlett registered eight points and five boards, as Okoboji doubles their league win total from a season ago. The Orabs are now winless through five league games, while the Pioneers improve to 2-3 in conference and 3-3 overall. Okoboji travels to 13th-ranked Central Lyon on Monday.
The Lions defeated county rival West Lyon, 72-33, on Friday. George-Little Rock outpaced Rock Valley, 51-29. MOC-Floyd Valley stayed perfect with a 72-41 win over Sibley-Ocheyedan. One basket separated Sioux Center and Boyden-Hull in a 44-42 win for the Warriors.
Spirit Lake wasted little time asserting their dominance over Storm Lake, turning a 15-point first quarter lead in to a 66-21 route of the Tornadoes. The Indians took advantage of 35 Storm Lake turnovers. KJ Veldman dropped in a game-high 27 points, connecting on a dozen field goals. Whitney Berkland hit three 3-pointers for her nine points. The Tornadoes got seven points from Mary Jo Besch, as they fall to 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in league play. Spirit Lake, at 5-1 this winter and 2-0 in the Lakes Conference, will try to remain perfect in league games when Cherokee comes to town on Tuesday. That came will be carried on KUOO Campus Radio.

Consistent scoring and late free throws keyed Emmetsburg’s conference win over LeMars, 49-41. Freshman Ashton Connelly was tops with 17 points, while Paige Naig poured in 14 points. Carolyn Ahlers tallied 17 point for the Bulldogs. The E-Hawks are 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Lakes Conference. Emmetsburg hosts non-conference foe Harris-Lake Park on Monday, a game to be aired on Q102.
Estherville-Lincoln Central made another statement Friday, holding Spencer to just ten points in a 35-10 road win for the second-ranked Midgets.
Harris-Lake Park tallied another impressive Cornbelt Conference victory, defeating CWL by twenty, 51-31. Noreen Morrow led all scorers with 16 points. The Wolves are 2-0 in league contests and 3-2 overall. They travel out-of-conference to play at Emmetsburg on Monday, a game to be aired on Q102.
It was another nail-biter for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Friday night, with the Hawks squeaking out a narrow 48-47 win at Remsen Saint Mary’s. HMS is 4-1 this winter and 2-0 in the conference. They host Hinton on Tuesday. Hinton will be coming off a conference win over South O’Brien, 67-22, in War Eagle play and is undefeated this season
In other action, Sioux Central went to overtime to remain undefeated and beat Manson NW Webster, 47-40.
North of the border, Martin County West registered a 52-43 win at home over Maple River.
