Pioneers, Indians Use Big Innings in Non-Conference Wins (Softball RoundUp)

Okoboji and Graettinger-Terril were locked in a close softball game Tuesday night in Milford until a four-run sixth gave the Pioneers some breathing room and a 6-1 win. Those four runs came on three hits and two errors as the Pioneers won for just the second time in six games. Freshman Abby Taylor reached base four times, recorded one hit, drove in a run and scored once. Bryanna Wittrock had a pair of base hits to drive in one and score one. Mikkinzie Peschong got the win allowing just four hits and striking four. The Knights were paced by Morgan Matthews, who went 2-for-3, and Maddy Schany, who drove in G-T’s lone run with a double in the sixth. Graettinger-Terril falls to 2-6 overall and hosts Twin River Valley on Wednesday. The Pioneers improve to 7-5 going into an off day.

Tied at one, the Spirit Lake bats burst open in the fourth inning against Sioux Central on Tuesday, leading to a dozen runs and a 13-1 win in four innings. Paige Krause continued her hot hitting going 4-for-4 with a grand slam to finish with six RBI. Emily Mercer had three hits and a run driven in, Carter Hassel and Amanda Bueltel both recorded three RBI with two hits apiece and Alissa Christoffer was a perfect 3-for-3. The Indians improve to 11-1 as they return to Lakes Conference play on Wednesday. Spirit Lake will host Spencer, a game that can be heard live on KUOO Campus Radio and online at Network1Sports.com.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was doubled up by Gehlen Catholic in War Eagle Conference play Tuesday, falling 6-2. Onica Jacobs came through with a 3-for-4 night and drove in a pair of runs. Jessica Stofferan scored twice on two hits, one a triple. The Hawks drop to 1-4 in the league and 3-4 overall, and will travel to rival South O’Brien on Wednesday.

The Harris-Lake Park softball team suffered their eighth straight loss Tuesday with a 15-11 setback against Laurens-Marathon. The Wolves are now 1-8.
