The Okoboji girls basketball team took advantage of 26 Sibley-Ocheyedan turnovers to notch their second Siouxland Conference win of the season, taking down the Generals 52-45. The Pioneers featured a balanced attack with three girls in double-digits. Taylor Poppema finished with a game-high 14 points, Shelby Nielsen had twelve points off the bench, and Paisley Jones powered her way to ten points. Sibley-Ocheyedan received ten a piece from Michaela Wolter and Alyssa Hibbing. Both teams are 2-15 in conference play. The Pioneers are now 5-16 overall and will play at MOC-Floyd Valley tonight.
The boys portion of the doubleheader was close entering the fourth quarter as Okoboji trailed by just five, but Sibley-Ocheyedan pulled away late, outscoring the Pioneers by 19 in a 61-37 victory. Brett Doeden led all scorers with 17 points, while Ryan Soat had eleven and Caleb Hartwig dropped in ten, nine of which came in the final quarter. Okoboji’s James Halbur hit six field goals, including two three-pointers, en route to 14 points. The Generals improve to 10-9 overall and 7-9 in the league, while the Pioneers are 1-19 on the year and 0-16 in the Siouxland. They, too, will travel to MOC-Floyd Valley this evening.
The Spencer girls ventured out-of-conference to get a 53-38 win over Algona on Monday night. Nicole Kramer tallied 15 points to lead the attack, with Tiffany Martindale contributing 14 points and Taylor Anderson with thirteen points. The Tigers improve to 11-8 overall.
In the Cornbelt Conference, the Ruthven-Ayrshire boys topped rival Graettinger-Terril 47-42. Trevin Enderson notched thirteen points for the Raiders, while the Knights were paced by Colin Leiting’s 15 points. The doubleheader was swept by the Raiders, with the girls of Ruthven-Ayrshire winning 39-32 over the Knights.
