Pioneers Find Early Success on the Links (Golf RoundUp)

The Okoboji girls golf team flexed some muscle early in Siouxland Conference schedule, taking second at the first league tour meet of the season at George-Little Rock. The Pioneers shot a team score of 212, just three strokes back of perennial league champion MOC-Floyd Valley (209). The top two individual scores did belong to Okoboji, with Alex Mankle grabbing medalist honors with a meet low 44, edging out teammate Kiley Wermersen, who carded a round of 45.

The boys Siouxland Conference tour meet was in Sheldon, and it was the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan that picked up the season’s first top honor. Sibley-Ocheyedan’s team score of 164 was three better than second place MOC-Floyd Valley (167). Okoboji finished with a 173 team total, good for third place overall. The Generals’ Brent Reed was the meet medalist with a round of 39. James Halbur and Tyler Ohl paced the Pioneers a pair of 42’s. Weston Berguson added a 44, while Mike Luhrs and Ben DeMuth tied at 45.

In Cornbelt Conference golf, the North Union boys won a tight contest in Armstrong over CWL by two strokes, 184-186. Sawyer Doocy tied for medalist honors with a 41. The Warriors girls team competed as well, though CWL was unable to field a full team. North Union shot a 238, led by Brooke Baxter’s 54.
