Pioneers Falter, Tigers & Midgets Roll (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

George-Little Rock knocked down five second half 3-pointers to pull away from Okoboji in a Siouxland Conference matchup Friday. The Mustangs went on a 7-0 run to start the second half and eventually beat the Pioneers 46-32. The win is G-LR’s eight straight over Okoboji. Keeley Kruse hit five from downtown, scoring a game-high 17 points. Abby Taylor connected on the Pioneers only two 3-pointers and finished with twelve points. Okoboji has an even 2-2 record overall and 1-2 in the league. They host West Lyon next Tuesday.

The rest of the Siouxland schedule saw MOC-Floyd Valley take a 50-21 win over Central Lyon. Sibley-Ocheyedan squeaked by Sheldon 44-42. Sioux Center earned a 24-point win over West Lyon, 55-31. Twenty points separated Boyden-Hull and Rock Valley in a 55-35 victory by the Comets.

Spencer’s defense limited the Unity Christian Knights to four, single-digit quarters in a non-conference 48-24 victory. Ashley Mahrt came in atop the scoring column with thirteen points, helping boost Spencer’s record to 2-1 before they travel to Cherokee on Tuesday for the Lakes Conference opener.

Elsewhere, second-ranked Estherville-Lincoln Central destroyed Forest City, 65-19. The Midgets are off to a 4-0 start. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn notched War Eagle Conference win over Remsen-Union, 38-26. Jessica Stofferan poured in 21 points as the Hawks improve to 2-1. Sioux Central had no trouble in a 57-16 victory over Laurens-Marathon.

North of the border, Fairmont suffered a 64-60 loss to Waseca, and Southwest Star Concept/Round Lake-Brewster lost 54-44 to Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.
