A high-scoring regular season finale did not go the way of the Okoboji baseball team Wednesday, with the Pioneers falling 15-11 to Sioux Center in Milford. The teams combined for 33 hits, seven errors and 22 runners left on base. The Warriors pulled away in the third with an eight-run frame as thirteen batters came to the plate against Okoboji starter Dalton Syverson. Brandon Huisman led the Sioux Center charge with three hits and three RBI. Zach Jones belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning to help keep the Pioneers close. The junior finished with three hits, five runs batted in and three scored. Okoboji has a final conference record of 4-11 and will take a 7-19 overall mark into the district playoffs on Saturday.
In their penultimate game of the regular season, Harris-Lake Park dropped a home contest to George-Little Rock by an 8-3 margin on Wednesday. The Wolves fall to 7-15 overall, with one final game against Sibley-Ocheyedan scheduled for Thursday in Lake Park.
Elsewhere in high school baseball, the Spencer Tigers defeated Storm Lake 8-6 in Lakes Conference play. Austin Allen drove in three runs on two hits, one of which went beyond the fences. The win puts Spencer at 9-5 in the league, and drops the Tornadoes into a tie for second place with Spirit Lake at 11-3. LeMars, at 12-2, is now the conference champion in 2011.
Estherville Lincoln Central took a non-conference ballgame against Forest City, 11-2, while Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire lost a 14-5 battle with Manson Northwest Webster. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosted Alta/Aurelia for their final game before the playoffs, but the Hawks suffered a 10-1 setback. HMS will take a 12-11 record into the postseason on Saturday.
