Pioneer Linksters Finish Third in Siouxland, Girls Fourth (Golf RoundUp)




Okoboji hosted the final Siouxland Conference boys’ golf tour stop of the season Tuesday at Emerald Hills, a meet that resulted in MOC-Floyd Valley being crowned league champions. The Dutch won the meet with a 160 team score, finishing ahead of Rock Valley (164) and third-place Okoboji. The Pioneers fired a 170 on their home track and would also finish third in the overall conference standings. Sibley-Ocheyedan was one-point better on the year for second-place. James Halbur and Tyler Ohl each shot rounds of 41 to lead Okoboji, which also counted a 43 from Tanner Taylor and a 45 by Ben DeMuth. Mitch McDonough and Ryan Christy of MOC-Floyd Valley tied atop the leaderboard with 39’s. For the season, Okoboji’s Halbur and Ohl earned first-team all-conference honors, while Wes Burgeson made second-team.

The Siouxland Conference girls’ gathered in Orange City for their final golf meet of the season, which MOC-Floyd Valley won on their home course Tuesday. The Dutch shot a 198, besting second-place Sheldon by four (202). Okoboji was third at 208. The low rounds of the day belong to the Pioneer’s Alex Mankle and MOC-Floyd Valley’s Mallory Simmelink with scores of 39. A tie-breaker put the Okoboji freshman as runner-up. Teammate Kiley Wermersen carded a 49 to take sixth. For the season, the Dutch won the championship, garnering two more points than the Orabs. Okoboji was fourth overall, with Mankle and Wermersen both receiving all-conference accolades.

In Lakes Conference golf, Estherville-Lincoln Central split a girls’ triangular with Storm Lake and LeMars on Tuesday. The Bulldogs shot a collective 208 on their home course, with the Midgets tallying a 211, and the Tornadoes right behind at 212. Tia Bernholtz was the meet medalist with a 48, her first round in the 40’s for ELC. Rachel Lausen counted a 52, Aryn Ward shot a 53, and Lauren Moeller tacked on a 58.
