Peschong Hurls Pioneers Past Wolves (Softball RoundUp)




Behind a 14-strikeout performance by their senior pitcher,
Okoboji earned a win over county rival Harris-Lake Park
on Tuesday, beating the Lady Wolves 15-4. Mikkinzie Peschong allowed just two
earned runs on seven hits in picking up her second consecutive win. At the plate, Abby Taylor notched four singles and a walk,
scored two runs and drove in another to pace Okoboji, which had 19 total hits.
Clare Eckard had four hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Maddie Bates
went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Harris-Lake Park
received two hits and two runs batted in from Emily Anderson. Macy Gunderson
scored twice, and took the loss in the circle. The Lady Wolves fall to 0-3 and open Cornbelt Conference
play Thursday with a doubleheader against rival
Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. The nightcap can be heard on KUOO. Okoboji,
now 2-2 overall, returns to Siouxland Conference play Wednesday at Sheldon.

Spirit Lake
was on the road again Tuesday for a non-conference matchup with Alta/Aurelia.
The Indians struggled early and were unable to rally in an 11-6 loss. Seniors
Amanda Bueltel and Cara Vale each had two hits, Carly Ites drove in three runs,
and Bailee Newman hit her first varsity home run. Newman as took the loss as
the starting pitcher. The Indians are 2-3 and open Lakes Conference play
tonight in Emmetsburg.

An eight-run fourth inning propelled Emmetsburg to an 11-6
non-conference win over Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer on Tuesday. Every E-Hawk
batter tallied a hit, with Faith Schmidt setting the pace by going 2-for-4 and
driving in three runs. Emmetsburg is 3-2 overall and hosts Spirit Lake
on Wednesday.

In other softball action, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley blanked
Sibley-Ocheyedan in a 13-0 win for the Nighthawks. Clay Central-Everly pounded
out a 12-3 win over Laurens-Marathon, and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hung tough
against tenth-ranked Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, but fell 3-0 in a War Eagle
Conference showdown.
