Penalty Kicks Send SLP-O Back to Substate Final (Soccer RoundUp)

Fighting to keep their season’s alive, the boys’ soccer
teams of Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji and Storm Lake
played through a second overtime tied at two goals a piece. The Class 2A
Substate Semifinal game would be decided in a shootout, and, in the end, the eleventh-ranked
Tornadoes couldn’t keep up. Ninth-ranked SLP-O converted four shots compared to
just three for Storm Lake, with Daniel Stover connecting on the game-winner to
secure the 3-2 victory. Zubeen Azari scored a goal in each half of regulation. Spirit
Lake Park-Okoboji advances to the substate final on Saturday against rival
Spencer. The fifth-ranked Tigers won their semifinal in resounding fashion,
pounding Sioux City Bishop Heelan, 8-0. Saturday’s game will be played in
Spencer at noon.
