Darkness prevented rivals Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji and Spencer from deciding a winner in boys’ soccer on Monday at the Bedell Family Y. The two rivals played into overtime tied at three goals a piece, before the game was called a draw due to darkness. Fourth-ranked SLP-O found the back of the net first, with senior Zubeen Azari notching a goal in the 15th minute. Tenth-ranked Spencer answered with a pair of goals from Nigel Nielsen and Carter Gerdeman to assume a 2-1 advantage before the half. Following the intermission, Kade Heikens took control with two quick goals on assists from Azari to reclaim the lead for SLP-O. Nielsen struck again in the final six minutes to pull Spencer even.
Thirteenth-ranked Spencer dominated Spirit Lake Park-Okoboji in the girls soccer opener on Monday, winning 5-0 at the Spencer Soccer Complex. Sophomore Kim Shabino registered a hat trick to pace the Tiger attack, which also received a pair of goals from Sierra Beschorner.
