Okoboji’s Mankle Advances to State (Golf RoundUp)

Okoboji will be represented at the girls state golf meet in
2012, and it may be a sign of big things to come over the next four years.
Freshman Alex Mankle fired a round of 80 at the Class 2A Regional meet at
Emmetsburg. Mankle’s score was the low score of the day for an individual
qualifying for state at River Valley Golf Course in Adel on May 29-30. Teammate Kiley Wermersen finished
out her career Monday, but did not qualify for state
.
The E-Hawks
competed as a team, however, their 433 team score fell 42 strokes shy of
qualifying behind Alta/Aurelia (379) and Sheldon (391).

Harris-Lake
Park hosted the Class 1A
Regional at Silver Lake Golf and Country Club. The event featured one
local golfer, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s Tressa DeBoer, who was unable to qualify
for the state meet. The team competition was won by Algona Bishop Garrigan
(350), with LeMars Gehlen Catholic (391) finishing runner-up.

In Class 3A, Spencer competed at the Clear Lake Regional and
ended the day tied for third, 56 strokes away from a spot in the state meet.
The Tigers shot a 400, matching the output of Nevada. Clear
Lake won the meet on their home track
with a ridiculous 324, followed by South Tama
at 344.
