The Okoboji Pioneers opened the 2011 volleyball season at the Spencer Tournament and took second place with a 2-1 record. Okoboji opened with a 21-12, 21-17 win over Clay Central-Everly, followed by a three-game match victory against South O’Brien, 21-15, 18-21, 15-12. The lone loss came against the host Tigers. Despite the Pioneers taking game one 21-16, Spencer rallied for win of 21-13 and 15-13 to take the match. Mikkinzie Peschong led the way with 17 kills, to go along with three service aces. Darby Jones finished with thirteen kills and a team-high nine blocks. Sydney Boeckholt recorded 31 assists and Devan Hanna notched 14 digs.
