Okoboji Snaps Losing Streak with Win Over North Union

Okoboji snapped a 27 game losing streak on Friday Night in Armstrong by beating North Union 28-8. Neither team scored in a first quarter that saw several penalties and both teams jockey for field position. In the second quarter, Okoboji drove into North Union territory but Nathan Eaton came up with an interception at the 8 yard line to end the threat. On their next possession the Pioneers got on the scoreboard, thanks to a 28 yard field goal from Jake Dodge. After forcing another punt by the Warriors, Okoboji drove 60 yards and scored on a 4 yard touchdown run by Alex Heller. The point after made it 10-0 Okoboji, which was the score at halftime. In the second half, Okoboji’s Nate Miklo recovered a fumble on the North Union 30 and five plays later, Noah Bouse found paydirt from 3 yards out to extend the lead to 17-0. Bouse also had an 11 yard touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Dodge hit another field goal, this time from 41 yards out. North Union’s only touchdown came with 4:18 to play as Josh Braddock ran it in from the one yard line.

Bouse led the Pioneers offense with 186 yards on 22 carries. Overall the Pioneers had 243 yards on the ground. Defensively, Pat Elrich recorded the lone sack of the game. Okoboji is 1-0 and has their home opener against West Sioux next week. The Falcons beat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 20-17 on Friday.

Braden Ortman led the North Union ground game with 72 yards. The Warriors are 0-1 and will try to get in the win column when they travel to Sioux Central next week. The Rebels fell to Pocahontas Area 12-6.
