Okoboji Secures Tournament Wins, HLP Goes 1-1, While Indians Drop Two More (Softball Update)

The Okoboji Softball Invitational wrapped up on Saturday, and the host Pioneers finished with two wins against a pair of rivals. First Okoboji defeated Graettinger-Terril by a 10-0. Maggie Rohlk went 3-for-4, Mary Eckard had two hits, two runs scored, and one driven in, and Abby Taylor drove in a pair. Winning pitcher Mikkinzie Peschong scattered six hits by the Knights, two by Cassy Hampson. Brooke Hoffman issued twelve walks in taking the loss. Okoboji then earned a narrow 8-7 victory over Harris-Lake Park. Peschong again got the win, coming in in relief. Taylor led the offensive charge, with two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Eckard crossed home three times as the Pioneers improved to 17-8 on the year and host Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley this evening.

Harris-Lake Park did go on to defeat Sheldon by a 7-6 margin in eight innings. The Wolves had just six hits in the win and took advantage of four walks. HLP boasts a 6-18 record with a conference doubleheader against Clay Central-Everly on Monday.

Graettinger-Terril went on to lose their second game, 7-4, to Sibley-Ocheyedan. The Generals notched an 11-9 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, who also fell 7-5 to MOC-Floyd Valley.

After going winless on day one of the Spencer Softball Invitational, the Spirit Lake Indians returned Saturday and suffered two more setbacks. The Indians dropped a 11-2 contest to Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. Spirit Lake committed eight errors in the game and its pitchers allowed just two earned runs on eight hits. Offensively, Spirit Lake tallied five hits, with Paige Krause driving in a run. The second loss was a 5-0 shutout against Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn. Sami Ashland took the loss surrendering a dozen hits and two earned runs. Spirit Lake notched eleven base hits, but left twelve runners on base. Alli Gerking was 3-for-4, while Cara Vale and Briana Brunsvold each had a pair of hits. The four losses drop the Indians to 17-9 on the season with a conference game at Spencer on Monday.

The rest of the tournament at Spencer saw the Tigers fall 5-2 against North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted, and 9-1 to Newell-Fonda. Estherville-Lincoln Central defeated Central Lyon/George-Little Rock 3-0, but dropped a 9-3 decision to Akron-Westfield.

Emmetsburg played three games at the Garner-Hayfield Softball Tournament, and put three more tallies in the win column. The E-Hawks defeated the hosts, Garner-Hayfield, 10-7, then beat Mason City Newman Catholic 6-3, and finished with a 10-0 shutout of Clarion-Goldfield in five innings. Emmetsburg travels to LeMars this evening.
