Okoboji continued its improved play with a lopsided
Siouxland Conference win over Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Monday. The Pioneers
surged to a 13-3 victory in six innings, improving to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in
the league. They travel to non-conference rival Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on
Tuesday.
Other Siouxland games saw Sibley-Ocheyedan drop a 14-2 ballgame with West Lyon. MOC-Floyd Valley
got by Sheldon, 9-1. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock needed an extra inning to
defeat Sioux Center, 3-2.
Spencer scored in five of the six innings they came to bat
and eventually secured a 13-5 victory over rival Spirit Lake
on Monday, staying atop the Lakes Conference standings. The Tigers broke the
game open with a four-run third, followed by a three-run fourth, and a four-run
fifth inning. Spencer’s Paige McCord drove in five runs on three hits and
scored three more times. Alexa Allen reached base four times, scoring twice and
tallying one RBI. Carly Richardson
pitched a complete game, four-hitter for win. The lefty struck out six batters
and issued eight walks. Spirit
Lake’s offensive
production came from Amanda Bueltel and Emily Mercer. The two seniors each had
two hits, with Bueltel driving in a pair of runs. Cara Vale got the start,
allowed five runs on five hits, before Bailee Newman entered and took the loss
with eight runs allowed on six hits over three innings. The Indians committed
three errors in the game. Spencer improves to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the
conference. The Tigers are at Estherville-Lincoln Central on Wednesday. Spirit Lake
falls to 6-6 on the season and 1-3 in the league. The Indians travel to Sioux
Central on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the Lakes, Estherville-Lincoln Central had no
trouble in a 15-2 victory at Storm
Lake, while Emmetsburg
picked up its second league loss, a 4-2 decision at LeMars.

Park and Clay
Central-Everly split a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader on Monday. The Lady
Wolves got their win in a high-scoring, 14-11, contest. The Mavericks won by a
9-3 margin. HLP boasts a 3-1 record in the league, is 4-6 overall, and hosts
Laurens-Marathon Tuesday.
Also in the Cornbelt, league front-runner and top-ranked North Union up-ended Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire
in a doubleheader sweep. The Warriors won by scores of 12-0 and 15-0.
Meanwhile in the War Eagle, West Sioux stole a league
victory at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, beating the Hawks, 10-5. Kori Boll registered
three hits and drove in two runs. Kathryn Ahlers took the loss pitching for HMS,
as she went four innings and surrendered four runs. The Hawks drop to 2-4 overall
and 1-4 in War Eagle play. Next up is a home game with seventh-ranked
Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn, which can be heard on Q102.
