An annual tournament in Everly saw four area teams battle for bragging rights between the Cornbelt, Siouxland, and War Eagle Conference. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn enjoyed the best day, taking two wins Saturday. The Hawks topped the host Mavericks by a 14-4 final. In their second game, HMS earned an 11-2 victory over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. The two wins push the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn record to 6-1 to start the season. GTRA handed Okoboji its first lost of the young season, topping the Pioneers in a high-scoring game, 11-8. Okoboji did net a 10-1 decision over Clay Central-Everly, to improve their record to 5-1.
Elsewhere, Estherville-Lincoln Central defeated Humboldt, 9-2. And Spencer earned two wins, taking down Sioux Central, 10-5, and Sioux City West, 9-4.
