Okoboji may have missed qualifying as a team for the next
level by eight strokes Thursday in the Class 2A District, however, the Pioneers
did boast the top two individual players. Playing on their home course of
Woodlyn Hills, senior Kiley Wermersen and freshman Alex Mankle finished 1-2,
respectively, to advance to Monday’s regional in Emmetsburg. Wermersen
topped the leaderboard with an 84, two shots better Mankle at 86. Okoboji also
received a 126 from Sarah Mayer and a 128 on the card of Alex Adams. The team
title went to Alta-Aurelia with a 384, besting second-place Emmetsburg by 32
strokes (416). The E-Hawks low round belonged to Ashley Pelzer with a 97,
Taylor Knight pitched in a 100, Aleysha Schute had a 109, and Paige Naig came
in a 110.
In the Class 2A District hosted by Sioux Center,
the Sheldon Orabs were crowned champions with a 378, with Unity Christian
taking second with a 406. Sioux
Center’s Kalee Den Herder
was the meet medalist with an 89.
After a perfect run through the Lakes Conference, the magic
ran out for the Spirit
Lake girls at the Class
3A District meet in Humboldt. The Indians finished fourth overall with a team
score of 426. Clear
Lake won the district
title with an impressive 348, followed in second by Spencer. The Tigers. who collected
a 401 total, will join the Lions at the regional in Clear Lake
on Monday, May 21. Estherville-Lincoln Central shot a 462 to finish sixth. Spirit Lake
was led by senior Whitney Berkland with a 97. Fellow seniors Amanda Willams and
Taylor Reitz each carded a 109, and Abby Goodenow came in at 111.
Harris-Lake
Park was hoping a
low-score day in Newell would mean a return trip home for next week’s
regional at Silver Lake Golf & Country Club. The Lady Wolves would fall 44
shots shy of that goal, tallying a 451 team total to place sixth overall.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was one spot better, taking fifth with a 445. The
district title belonged to Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn at 402, with second place
falling to Newell-Fonda at 407. Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire pulled out
a 529 for eighth, and Clay Central-Everly ended in tenth at 601. HLP counted
scores of 104 by Amanda Hibma, 107 from Macy Gunderson, 119 from Noreen Morrow,
and Rachel Vellema’s 121. Tressa DeBoer of HMS qualified for the regional in Lake Park
with a score of 100, tying her for fifth.The Hawks also received scores of 103 from Haley Morfitt, and a pair of 121’s from Val Treimer and Jenna DeBoer. Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire had a top round of 110 by Kelley Harris, Alyssa Hoffman came in with a 114, Kendra Feldman carded a 122, and Gabby Kerr finished at 183.
