Spirit Lake Girls basketball team held a nine point half
time lead on the road against Spencer, last night. That lead was cut to six after three quarters
of play, and the Tigers were up by as many as four in the fourth quarter.
The young Indians, who were playing without starters K.J.
Veldman and Kendra Stokke, hung in there, and led 52-49 in the final seconds,
but Spencer senior Heather Williamson nailed a three-pointer from the top of
the key, with three seconds remaining, to send the game into overtime.
Spirit
Lake was outscored 4-3,
in the overtime period, and were beaten 56-55 by the Tigers.
Alissa Christoffer scored 28 points, including eleven in the
fourth quarter, to lead the Indians, who will look to bounce back, tonight in Milford, against the Okoboji
girls, who beat George-Little Rock, 55-44.
Junior Darby Jones came off the bench to score 17 for the
Pioneers. Junior Abby Taylor had 13 and made a couple steals on defense.
Okoboji improved to 8-4, which is the same record now held by Spirit Lake. You can here the two teams go at it, tonight,

That will be followed by the game between the Spirit Lake
and Okoboji boys’ teams. Spirit Lake
fell to 9-4, last night, as they had a five game win streaked snapped in a
55-30 loss to Spencer.
The Pioneers, meanwhile, improved to 3-8, as they knocked
off George-Little Rock, 42-40. Senior
Keaton Jones led Okoboji with 16 while senior Weston Burgeson had 13.
Elsewhere, the Cherokee Boys picked up their first win of
the season, as they downed Emmetsburg, 50-43.
The Emmetsburg girls also fell to Cherokee, their score was 47-40.
In other boys games, West Bend-Mallard beat Clay
Central-Everly, 60-14. South O’Brien
knocked off West Sioux, 58-29.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s games against Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn
was postponed until January 28th.
Western Christian boys Estherville-Lincoln Central, 85-55. The Western Christian girls beat ELC, 70-59.
