The Sheldon Orabs hosted a 15-team cross country invitational on Tuesday, and Spirit Lake’s top-ranked runners of Will Norris and Keith Byers battled it out for top honors yet again. Norris, a junior, ran a time of 15:43 to outpace the senior, who ran 15:54, as the duo finished 1-2, respectively. As a team, Spirit Lake came in fourth with 102 points, trailing Storm Lake (87), Unity Christian (91), and MOC-Floyd Valley (101).
Over on the girls’ side, Unity Christian grabbed the top honors with 61 points, narrowly edging out MOC-Floyd Valley by a point. Spencer took fifth place at 119 points, Estherville-Lincoln Central was sixth (141) and Spirit Lake seventh (208). Dondi Schmidt, a top-20 runner in the state, ran to an eighth place time of 15:41 for Spirit Lake.
