Spirit Lake Boys Results
A brisk and slightly damp NW spring breeze welcomed us to the outdoor season but our boys stepped off the bus undeterred by the weather and ready to compete. In our 1st outdoor team competition for the year we amassed 130 points to win the meet by over 42 points to MOC’s 2nd place score of 88. Of the 10 teams competing, many of them were 2A and stand a strong possibility to be in our districts; which should be announced soon. It was great for us to see some outdoor events we have not yet had the chance to contest yet. One of those notable events was our Shuttle Hurdle (Alger/Toews/Cornwall/Latham) who broke our SCHOOL RECORD and Meet Record right out of the gates with a time of 1:01.13. This time currently puts us #1 in Iowa All-Classes. Our 4×200 (Latham/Hussey/Toews/Cornwall) broke a 48 year old Meet Record with a time of 1:30.93. This also puts us #1 in Iowa All-Classes. Our last Meet Record of the night was set by Jack Latham in the 110H. His 14.36 broke one of the Lakes Conference greats of Logan Masters from 2006 by over a half second. It wasn’t all just about records as we had many other great performances of the night. From Tommy Profit placing in the 400H to Ryder Sundall throwing down a 2:05 in the open 800 we had many promising PRs. As a coach one of my top moments was watching almost a completely different line-up of 4×1 runners than our season best 4×1, run a 45.28F that would qualify for Drake on its own merit. The depth and drive of this team continues to shine bright for us. I can’t wait for the sun to come out and shine with us at our next track meet now too.
