A late power surge propelled Estherville-Lincoln Central past Spirit Lake 10-1 last night in a Class 2A Regional Semifinal game in Milford. The Indians led 1-0 after Allie Gerking scored on a passed ball in the first inning; however, the Midgets came to life in the fifth inning. They registered seven runs on eight hits, highlighted by Brooke Egeland’s three-run homer to make it 7-1. ELC’s Emily Kirchner and Morgan Schichtl both went over the fence in the sixth inning to cap the scoring. Kendall Bosch earned the win allowing just one earned run on six hits while striking out four. Cara Vale suffered the loss giving up nine earned runs on thirteen hits. Spirit Lake’s season ends with a 21-14 record. Estherville-Lincoln Central moves on to play Hinton on Wednesday in Cherokee for the right to go to state.
Emmetsburg continued their march towards a second straight trip to the state tournament with a 10-0 win over Kuemper Catholic Monday night in Storm Lake. In Class 1A, Graettinger-Terril dropped a 16-4 decision to 11th-ranked Alta in Spencer in the Regional Semi’s. The Knights finish out the 2010 campaign with a 14-14 mark.
