Mercer’s Slam Lead Indians, While Okoboji and HLP Get Wins (Softball)

A career night for Spirit Lake’s Emily Mercer led to a 10-5 Indians win over Storm Lake in Lakes Conference softball Wednesday night. The sophomore drove in the game’s first two runs in the first inning, then came to the plate with the bases loaded in the second, and smashed a grand slam over the left field fence to make it 7-0 Indians. She finished going 3-for-3 at the plate with seven RBI and a run scored. Cara Vale earned the win, her tenth of the season. The Indians are now 11-7 overall and 2-5 in the Lakes.

In other Lakes conference softball, Emmetsburg shutdown Estherville-Lincoln Central 8-0, while Spencer fell 4-1 to Western Christian. The Tigers committed six errors in the contest. Also last night, Okoboji topped Sioux Center 3-1 to improve to 6-2 in the Siouxland Conference. Makenzie Anderson led the offense with two hits, one of which she sent over the fence, while Keely Bracelin struck out eight for the win. Coach Eric Clouse’s Lady Wolves earned another Cornbelt Conference ‘W” as Harris-Lake Park defeated Ruthven-Ayrshire 2-1, Graettinger-Terril pulled away from Clay Central-Everly 11-3, and George-Little Rock surpassed Sibley-Ocheyedan 11-7.
