Losses for Spirit Lake, Okoboji, HLP in Baseball

Spirit Lake was unable to secure a Lakes Conference win in its home opener against Hull Western Christian, falling 5-3. The Indians rallied with two outs in the second to take a 2-1 lead, highlighted by a Tyler Dean RBI-triple. Dean eventually scored on a Mitch Peschon single. But an error and three consecutive extra base hits in the fifth to propelled the Wolfpack to the win. Spirit Lake was limited to just two hits by winning pitcher Levi Blankespoor, while Paul Brown took the loss. The Indians are now 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference. They will take on Hartley-Melvin Sanborn this evening. You can hear that game on our sister station Q102 beginning at 5:15.

Okoboji traveled to Sheldon and dropped a 6-4 ballgame in a Siouxland Conference game. Ray Zalabowski struck out nine batters through four innings. Zach Jones, who took the loss in relief of Zalabowski, went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, while also hitting a home run in the sixth as part of a Pioneer lineup that’s beginning to wake up. Head coach Rory Marra has his Pioneers at 1-1 in conference play.

In other baseball action, Harris-Lake Park split a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader with Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka. Game one went in favor of the Wolves, 9-4; however, the nightcap was taken by the Tigers, 3-2. HLP is 2-3 overall.

Also, Sibley-Ocheyedan dropped a lopsided 19-1 loss to MOC-Floyd Valley.
