Erin Dau, a Spirit Lake 7th Grader and a member of the Bedell Barracudas Swim Team, recently participated in the 2012 YMCA State Swim Meet in Marshalltown, Iowa on March 4. Dau had a dominating performance, capturing state titles in each of her three individual events: the 50-yard butterfly, the 50-yard backstroke and the 100-yard backstroke.
The following weekend, Dau was back in the pool and participated in the inaugural YMCA Midwest Regional Championships in Rochester, Minnesota, on March 10-11. More than 560 swimmers representing 31 different YMCA swim team from Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin competed in the event. Dau qualified for the maximum seven events and earned first place finishes in five, to go along with one second place and one seventh place finish.
Additionally, Dau swam in the YMCA nationals’ time trials, qualifying with appropriate times in several of her events.
