The Lakes Conference has handed out its postseason softball
awards for the 2012 season, and several area athletes are at the top of the
list. Four Spirit
Lake players received
first team honors. Catcher Emily Mercer and utility player Cara Vale, both
seniors, were joined by junior outfield Alissa Christoffer and fellow-junior
Paige Krause, who led the league with a school-record thirteen home runs. Two
more Indians, sophomore outfielder Kayla Herrig and senior third baseman Amanda
Bueltel, earned second-team all-conference honors. Underclassmen Hayley Roberts
and Carly Ites grabbed honorable mention accolades. Conference co-champions
Estherville-Lincoln Central placed five players on the first- and second-teams,
two of which were unanimous first-team choices. State-bound Emmetsburg finished
with four all-conference players, while Spencer finished with three.
