Lakes Area Schools Suffer Confernce Losses (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

The Spirit Lake girls basketball team continued a rough shooting stretch Friday night in Emmetsburg, but did enough to secure a 39-27 defeat over the E-Hawks in Lakes Conference play. KJ Veldman reached 14 points to lead the Indians, who led from start to finish. Paige Naig tallied ten, but struggled to an 0-for-9 showing at the free throw line for Emmetsburg. The E-Hawks are now 1-6 in the Lakes, while Spirit Lake improves to 5-2, and 7-3 overall. They will play at Okoboji this evening and it can be heard on KUOO Campus Radio.

A twelve-point first half meant a sizable early deficit for the Okoboji Pioneers last night at Sioux Center. They trailed by 14 at the half, and would suffer a 54-32 defeat on the road in the Siouxland Conference. Taylor Poppema registered nine points for Okoboji, which is 1-9 in conference and 3-9 overall. The Pioneers will host Spirit Lake this evening.

Following Thursday’s Cornbelt Conference win, the Harris-Lake Park Lady Wolves were unable to make it two-in-a-row, falling narrowly at Twin River Valley 45-44. HLP remains in second place at 6-2 in the league.
