The action continued Friday night at the 102nd Drake Relays in Des Moines as two area relay teams put their abilities on display. The girls 4x100m relay team from Okoboji, featuring Jordan Duncan, Bryanna Wittrock, Skylar Hansen, and Taylor Poppema, ran a time of 52.84 and finished sixth in their heat. The time was good for 62nd overall. Spirit Lake Park’s 4x400m boys relay team of Kevin Martinson, Luke Kabele, Aric Waltz, and Kayne Feldick ran as well, posting a time of 3:28.34. They placed seventh in their heat and 18th overall. Earlier in the day, Kabele, Martinson, Feldick, and Alec Baldwin combined to finish 16th overall and sixth in their heat of the sprint medley relay with a time of 3:36.71. Dalton Kelley of SLP competed in the discuss and threw a distance of 136’6”, placing him twelfth overall. And Okoboji’s Zach Jones ran a time of 15.52 in the 110m hurdles to grab sixth in his heat and 21st overall. Day three at the Drake Relays will include the Spirit Lake Park boys 4x800m relay team, and Keith Byers and Alec Baldwin in the 1600m run.
