Lady Wolves Take Next Step In Class 1A Regional (Basketball RoundUp)

In the opening round of the girls Class 1A basketball regional, Cornbelt Conference rivals Armstrong-Ringsted and Harris-Lake Park engaged in a defensive ballgame that the Lady Wolves would eventually win, 34-26. HLP never trailed in the game and was paced by sophomore Lydia Brandt, who scored 14 points. Fellow sophomore Mariah Gath dropped in ten points, including two three-pointers. The Mustangs received thirteen points from freshman Dena Looft, eleven of which came in a crucial third quarter rally. Armstrong-Ringsted’s season ends with a 4-15 record. The win is the thirteenth of the season for Harris-Lake Park and sets up a second round meeting with tenth-ranked North Sentral Kossuth, who defeated Graettinger-Terril, 64-19. That game will be next week Tuesday (2/15) in Fenton, and we’ll have live coverage on Q102.

In other action, Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Sadie Forey poured in 17 points to lead the Raiders to a 47-43 victory over rival Clay Central-Everly. R-A advances to play Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn, who took down Spalding Catholic by a 67-39 decision.

George-Little Rock outpaced Boyden-Hull in a first round matchup, 52-40, and will next square off with Central Lyon, after the Lions defeated Trinity Christian 59-29.

Also in Class 1A, Newell-Fonda dispensed of Storm Lake St. Mary’s 56-34. Their next opponent will be West Bend-Mallard, as the Wolverines beat up Laurens-Marathon 48-26.
