Spirit Lake also poured it on in Cherokee to grab a league win Monday, dismantling the Braves 14-1. Cara Vale scattered eight hits and struck out seven batters, while the Indians offense was propelled by Paige Krause. The sophomore belted a two-run homer, three doubles and a single, finishing with six runs batted in. Alissa Christoffer notched three hits as Spirit Lake climbs to 10-1 and now 2-1 in the conference. The Indians are back at in Tuesday with a home game against Sioux Central.
In other Lakes Conference softball, Emmetsburg remained perfect in league play with a 4-1 win over rival Spencer, and LeMars shut down Storm Lake 12-0 in three innings.
The Okoboji Pioneers struggled on the road in the Siouxland Conference, dropping a 10-0 ballgame in five innings at Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. The Pioneers have lost four of their last five and currently sit at 6-5 on the year, 2-2 in the league. They welcome Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire to Milford on Tuesday, a game that can be heard on Q102 starting around 6:45pm.
The rest of the Siouxland saw West Lyon defeat Sibley-Ocheyedan in five innings, 12-2, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock topped Sioux Center 11-5, and MOC-Floyd Valley slipped past Sheldon 7-6.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn handled its business on the road Monday, defeating Unity Christian 9-2. Onica Jacobs limited the Knights to six hits in her five innings of work to get the win. She also helped her own cause with two hits, driving in three and scoring two more. Clarissa Beving score three times and reached safely in all five of her at bats. The Hawks are currently 3-3 on the year.
In the Cornbelt Conference, Twin River Valley dominated Clay Central-Everly in a league doubleheader by scores of 12-2 and 19-9, both wins coming in five innings. North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted earned a sweep of Harris-Lake Park in a league twinbill, taking game one, 14-2, and the nightcap, 12-2. The Wolves have now lost seven straight since their season opening win over Storm Lake St. Mary’s. HLP travels to Laurens-Marathon on Tuesday.
