The Iowa State Girls Softball Tournament began Wednesday with the opening round of Districts in Class 1A, and Harris-Lake Park let a win slip away on their home diamond. The Wolves scored two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to grab a three run advantage. However, Graettinger-Terril rallied to score six in their half of the fifth for the 6-3 win, advancing to the second round. Alyssa Hoffman earned the win, while Jena Peters took the loss. Lydia Brandt led the way offensively for HLP, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Noreen Morrow, Shelby Peters, and Emily Anderson all notched RBI. The Wolves season closes with a 9-19 record. The Knights move on to play Clay Central-Everly, who defeated Ruthven-Ayshire 8-5.
Armstrong-Ringsted’s season ended with a heartbreaker at the hands of Bishop Garrigan by a 10-9 final in extra innings in Algona.
Our postseason coverage continues tonight with a tripleheader of first round games in Class 2A. On Campus Radio KUOO and ExploreOkoboji.com, the Spirit Lake Indians host the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals. All Indians fans are being asked to wear red to the game. On Q102 it’s the Okoboji Pioneers welcoming South O’Brien to Milford, and on Y100 second-ranked Emmetsburg opens their playoff run with a home game with Sioux Central. All broadcasts will begin at 6:45pm. Also tonight, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn hosts Estherville-Lincoln Central.
