The top-ranked girls basketball team from Jackson County Central showed why many see them as such with a commanding 65-50 defeat of Spirit Lake on Saturday night. The Indians led early following a couple Cara Vale three-pointers, but the full-court pressure of the Huskies proved too difficult to handle as Spirit Lake turnovers quickly turned into JCC points. Whitney Burmeister paced the Huskies with 19 points, while Kaylee Benson had a dozen and Marita Rasche ten. The Indians top scorer was sophomore KJ Veldman with 19 points, nine of which came from deep. She also had a team-high eight rebounds. Vale finished with eight points. Spirit Lake is 1-1 and battles rival Spencer in a Lakes Conference showdown on Tuesday. You can hear that game on KUOO Campus Sports.
