Iowa High School Football Shrine Bowl This Weekend

This summer’s Shrine Bowl, the 41st annual in the state of Iowa, will once again feature the best and brightest of this year’s senior class in the all start football game which raises money for Shriner’s Hospitals.

The game, played this year at the UNI-Dome, is scheduled for Saturday July 27.  Four local players will be members of the North team and they include Spirit Lake’s Cody Poock and Brett Cochren-Bray, Emmetsburg’s Andrew Wellik and Spencer’s Austin Allen.  In addition, two Spencer cheerleaders, Ashley Bredlow and Liza Lovan along with two Spirit Lake cheerleaders, Kaitlin Gondreau and Jessica Sandy will also be a part of the game.

The rosters will be broken into North and South teams with a total of 92 players and 60 cheerleaders.  The North team will be coached by Mike Dirksen of Mason City Newman Catholic.  One of the assistant coaches will be Josh Bolluyt of Spirit Lake.

The gates will open at 2 PM with the kickoff at 4 PM at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
