Senior Mitch Peschon and junior Wes Bergquist carried the Spirit Lake boys basketball team to it’s second Lakes Conference victory Friday night, defeating Cherokee 55-44. Bergquist scored 14 of his 15 points in the first half, and Peschon finished with a game-high 22. Spirit Lake improves to 2-2 in conference and 2-4 overall with a non-conference showdown with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn coming up Monday. That game can be heard on KUOO Campus Radio.
The Emmetsburg EHawks have taken early bragging rights over rival Spencer following last night’s 58-44 win on the Tigers home floor. Cory Schultes paced Emmetsburg with 19 points and Ryan Kliegl added 16. Blake Seier was the top scorer for Spencer with 15. The EHawks remain perfect on the year at 6-0 overall and 4-0 in league play, while Spencer drops to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in the Lakes.
Okoboji traveled to Rock Valley for another chance at a Siouxland Conference victory, but fell 57-45. Weston Burgeson poured in a dozen points and Brian Dubois reached ten for the game. The Pioneers head into the Christmas break 0-5 in the conference and 1-6 overall.
Beau Craig scored a game-high 27 points to lead Graettinger-Terril past Corwith-Wesley-Luverne 60-52 in Cornbelt Conference action Friday night.
