Another impressive first quarter saw the Spirit Lake Indians score touchdowns on each of the first three drives en route to lopsided 49-14 win over rival Spencer. The Tigers were held to just 217 yards of total offense, while Spirit Lake went up-and-down the field to the tune of 584 yards. Junior Paul Brown completed his first thirteen passes, two for touchdowns, and finished with 170 yards through the air. He also ran for another six points. Luke Kabele steamrolled to 120 yards on the ground and found the end zone twice. Others to score for the Indians included Bryson McCabe, Cody Poock, Aric Waltz, and Dylan Bryce. The Tigers points came on a 93 yard kickoff return by Max Rasmussen and an 85 yard touchdown run from Hunter Cashman. The Tigers, at 1-1, host rival Emmetsburg next Friday. Top-ranked Emmetsburg flexed some early season muscle in taking down Estherville-Lincoln Central with a 41-15 win. The E-Hawks outgained ELC by 168 yards and kept the Midgets to just three total first half yards. Marcus Akridge highlighted a balanced Emmetsburg offense with 96 yards and a score as the E-Hawks move to 1-0. The Midgets fall to 0-2 and host Algona in a week. Emmetsburg travels to Spencer and can be heard on Y100.
Other scores from throughout the area include Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley taking down Western Christian 15-3. MOC-Floyd Valley pulled away from Sioux Center for a 34-12 victory. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock has bragging rights in Lyon County after defeating the Wildcats of West Lyon by a 16-14 margin. Sheldon earned their second win of the season defeating South O’Brien 33-17. Unity Christian handled West Sioux 30-7. Storm Lake dominated Cherokee with a 51-7 victory and Sioux Central shut out Clay Central-Everly 34-0.
A balanced offensive attack and stingy defense is what propelled Harris-Lake Park to its second win of the season, a 56-6 decision over Spalding Catholic. The ground game churned up 160 yards, led by Brady Nissen’s 91-yard effort and three touchdowns, while the passing game tallied 156 on 7-13 throwing from Colin Brons. He also connected for one touchdown via the air. The Wolves stout defense limited the Spartans to just over a hundred yards and on late score.
